Sistahs Talkin’ Back

STB is a unit organizing women to support one another and to advance our feminist agenda. The name was inspired from a book by feminist writer bell hooks, noting that speaking up and talking back are the first acts of resistance to our patriarchal oppression.

International Women’s Day & Women’s History Month

The sistahs of OBS organized their first Affirmations! program in March of 1990 in alignment with the global struggles of women.  The program is a commemoration of International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month. Our slogan is “Celebrating the lives and contributions of women in a political and cultural way.”

Health & Reproductive Justice

We will struggle to ensure that all women enjoy equal access to quality health care and full reproductive rights, including the right to determine when or whether they will bear children and the right to a safe, legal abortion. We stood in solidarity with the Trust Black Women campaign organized by SisterSong (ATL).

Gender Violence

We fight to end all forms of violence in the home, the workplace and the broader community. We are committed to creating safe spaces where women work, play, live and love.
